Ok I am letting everyone know about my recent experience...
I received this email regarding my band name SubRocket...

Hi. I am writing to you about the name "SuBrocket." I noticed you are a loud speaker designer and have created some music you are calling subrocket to draw attention to your business.
My son and his friends have a band in Washington State called SuBrocket, they are on Myspace, they have registered on musicians-in-your-city.us and they have purchased the domain name subrocket.com for the original music of the band SuBrocket. We think you should know this because they plan to continue and grow and they have established themselves as SuBrocket.
Please call me at (360) 829-#### if you would like to discuss this issue. My hope is to avoid any costly legal battles.
Thank you for your consideration,

Hi Jeff,I am not making music to "draw attention" to my software. I have been making music under the name of SubRocket since 2004. I have around 40 songs to my name. I also plan to grow and have been doing so for years. The name SubRocket was not picked out of a hat. It is a culmination of SubDevo (my email nick that I have had for 15yrs) and Rocket (nickname that all my friends call me). I have been working closely with James Pennington (The Suburban Knight) who is currently working with UR (Underground Resistance). If you do any research on him, you will find he is VERY well known in the scene. His first gold song was from 1984. He is my mentor and offers me guidance and direction in my music. Now, it is true that I have not "registered" my name. And you have. I have just recently been making my music public. The band you are referring to has only been together for less than one year. And since they are just starting out, and I am but one person, I have changed my name to "Sub-Rocket" and registered it with band name protection. This is the ONLY concession I will make to my name. If this is not acceptable then we do indeed have a problem... Regards, |

Thank you very much. I appreciate where you are coming from and the boys are pleased. This should work.
Thanks,

I tell you what, this pissed me off!
Bottom line is... GET YOUR BAND NAME REGISTERED!!!!! So that now one can mess with you!
Just go here:
http://www.bandnameprotection.org/Click on the "Flag" of the country you reside in.
That will take you to a music registration site for your country.
Follow the instructions to sign up.
(You will need a website to put some code into, so they can verify. Don't worry if you don't have one, you can do it later. Just get a free site! I use a free
ProBoards forum for my site. That was good enough for them!)
Once you have done that. Sign in!
On the left side of the page, click on "Band Name Protection" and go through the steps.
There! Now you have a legally protected and copyrighted band name!
Hope this is good info for all of you potential musicians.
Regards,
SubDevo (aka Sub-Rocket)
Hey diP this may be good enough to be a sticky
